In today's ever-evolving job market, the concept of flexible working has gained significant traction. With the advancement of technology and a shift towards a more balanced approach to work-life dynamics, companies are adapting to meet the changing needs of their employees. This adaptation fuelled the founding of Bid Smart, the opportunity to do what we do best, around our family commitments.
Why We Founded Bid Smart
One of the many great things about working in bidding is the ability to manage deadlines around home-work-life. Writing a compelling bid requires 'quiet-time' to concentrate, as well as time in-between to manage day-to-day queries, and the chasing and collation of various information. We are colleagues who are passionate about our work, as well as needing and wanting to be present for our families. Our dream for Bid Start was founded on us having the ability to manage our own diaries, as well as wanting to support other businesses to free up their time to concentrate on what matters most to them.
Empowering Professionals
Bid Smart aims to empower each other to take control of our careers and work on our own terms. We are creating a space where we set our own schedules, and choose projects that align with our skill sets and commitments. We understand that family comes first and we support our colleagues to work how they work best, rather than trying to fit into a 9-5 model.
Flexible Working Legislation
We were happy to see the publication of the Flexible Working Legislation. As of 6 April 2024 employees can make a statutory request to make permanent changes to their contract from their first day of employment. This means that from day one, they can ask an employer for changes to how long, when and where they work. Employees can now make two requests in any twelve-month period, rather than the previous one request. In addition, employers are required to make a decision on the request within two months of receiving it. We hope that this legislation allows more people to work flexibly, supporting people who may of previously been unable to take on a particular job role or pursue their career of choice.
